Host Data: My Current Web Host 2007-09-25

Here are monthly summaries for my current web host. The figures looks surprisingly similar from month to month though my hosting company have told me (and other customers) that they are working hard to get there MySQL servers to work better. This is cheap web hosting, but actually without data like those presented below for different hosting alternatives you do not have much chance to know what is better (unless you buy a dedicated or virtual private server). Unfortunately this kind of data is not yet available anywhere on the Internet (at least I have not been able to find it).

Some notes that may be helpful when reading the charts:

  • The charts shows time to create the pages (network transport time is not included).
  • The time scale is logarithmic. Here is how to translate it:

    • -1 => 0.1 seconds
    • 0 => 1 second
    • 1 => 10 seconds
    • 2 => 100 seconds
  • I consider times below 1 second good, times upto 10 seconds usable and longer times unusable. This means (see the charts below) that about half the times the performance is good and that in one quarter of the times performance is so bad that the site is unusable. (And thinking about it: actually the figures are even worse than this. I forgot the times the web host times out.)
